Professional exchange with Chinese nurses, March 2003

Arizona Nurse,  Nov 2002  by Gerber, Rose

The Arizona Nurses Association is pleased to be able to work collaboratively with People to People Ambassador Programs to sponsor a delegation of nurses to The People's Republic of China during March, 2003. The delegation, under the leadership of AzNA member Rose Gerber, RN, PhD, will depart from San Francisco on March 10 and return on March 19. There will be many opportunities to visit health care facilities and cultural sites in Chengdu and Beijing, China. An optional threenight extension in Hong Kong is available. Dr. Gerber led a similar delegation to China in November, 2000, and is looking forward to returning to a country where the people were gracious and open to sharing information on nursing and health care.

The professional exchange will focus on nursing and Traditional Chinese Medi cine. There is nothing like international travel for understanding the world in which we live and interacting with professional colleagues within the cultural context of their own homeland. An application for 26 AzNA continuing education units is in process.

The People to People program, founded in 1956 by U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, strives to improve communication between citizens of all counties. President Eisenhower believed that government could not accomplish international peace alone, but rather through personalized contact between individuals. Since People to People Ambassador Programs is a private citizen effort, delegates and their guests are responsible for their own program costs. The estimated cost per delegate or guest is U.S. $4250 (departing from and returning to San Francisco).

Applications should be completed by December, 2002. If you are interested in participating, please contact People to People at (800) 669-7882, fax at (509) 532-3556; or e-mail

KristiW@ambassadorprograms.org.

The invitation code number is 6062-4-- 200238. You may also contact Dr. Gerber via email at rgerber@dakotacom.net or call her at 520-882-9839.
