Legislative update

Arizona Nurse,  Mar 2003  by Griffith, Mary

The First Session of the 46th Legislature has been described by some as "The Perfect Storm" as a legislature with a near majority of freshmen legislators faces an unprecedented budget shortfall. As this issue of the Arizona Nurse goes to press, AzNA is engaged in rallying nurses to support the passage of our Whistleblower Protection bills HB2202/SB 1178 to full passage. At the same time, SB2198 Urgent Care Centers, which would require physicians at all times in urban urgent care centers is moving forward despite the objections of many stakeholders and particularly AzNA on behalf of nurse practitioners. Then there is the upcoming Special Budget Session which threatens not only many health care programs including KidsCare and the Women's Breast Cancer Screening and Treatment Program, but the reserve fund of the Board of Nursing. Keep abreast of the constantly changing legislative situation by reading the AzNA HOTLINE which is updated at least weekly. Find the HOTLINE by going to the AzNA Homepage at www.aznurse.org and clicking on the HOTLINE link. The list of bills below can also be found on the HOTLINE and is updated regularly.
