AzNA introduces two new publications

Arizona Nurse,  Jul 2003

The history of AzNA is chronicled in Arizona Nurses Association: 1970 to 2002 a Historical Report

AzNA's Archives committee has been working diligently to finish the book on the last 30 years of AzNA. This is a sequel to the successful book White Caps in the Desert (Shields, 1970) which chronicled the events of the nurses association in Arizona from the beginning meetings in 1917 and the formal organization in 1919 through 1969. This sequel highlights AzNA's challenges and the misadventures in the survival of the professional organization during a period of rapid technological advances in history from 1970 until the beginning of the 21st century. Some changes that would startle, surprise or disgruntle our predecessors are elimination of white caps, capping ceremonies and white uniforms with matching hose and shoes. This book chronicles issues such as professional advocacy, changes in the Nurse Practice Act as well as changes in continuing education. The book also highlights committed and dedicated AzNA members.

The book will be available in September at Convention. For more information please contact Barbara K. Miller, RN, PhD at barbara.k.miller@asu.edu.

The Quick Guide to Nursing Practice was first published in 1999 to rave reviews. The Quick Guide provides information and resources to assist nurses in successfully overcoming the predictable (and sometime unpredictable) challenges to professional nursing practice. This guide is one of the tools that the Arizona Nurses Association offers to express our commitment to advance, promote and protect the value, contributions and development of Arizona's professional nurses.

The Quick Guide is available for $5 (plus shipping) by calling (480) 831-0404 or by e-mailing mary@aznurse. org.

Other AzNA publications available for $5 are Developing Your Nursing Career, A Working Guide, Directory of Specialty Nursing Organizations and the Professional Nurses Portfolio on CD.
