As of August 10, 2004, Arizona had 274 reported cases of WNV infection in humans, more than any other state. The reported cases have been in Maricopa (264), Final (5) Mohave (3), Graham (1) and Apache (1) counties. Three deaths have been reported. In Arizona, the mosquito season is well underway but it is anticipated that the case number will increase greatly before the season ends in late September/early October.
