Be Part of the AzNA Membership Drive

Arizona Nurse,  May 2006  by Thompson, Sandra

Membership Campaign May 1st - June 15th

AzNA Membership: Together We Can Do It! Membership Campaign Extended to June 15th

You have been hearing alot about AzNA membership lately: For example, how important it is to join; how important it is to maintain your membership; and how important it is to have a strong voice within the profession as well as the legislature. But do you know what AzNA is doing for membership? The AzNA Membership Committee was restructured in 2005. This group of hard-working volunteers has been diligently working not only to increase association membership, but to engage it as well. Strategic planning has been constructed into three major areas: recruitment of new members, retention of existing members, and strengthening relationships between the chapter and state levels. Here are some of the projects the committee is executing:

Recruitment

* AzNA now sends welcome letters to all newly licensed Arizona nurses on a monthly basis, introducing them to the benefits of AzNA membership.

* AzNA has a representative working with the Student Nurses Association of Arizona to "bridge the gap" from student to professional association membership.

* AzNA representatives volunteer their time at college, career, and professional events to introduce individuals to the association.

Retention

AzNA is looking at more ways to bring the association to the "bedside nurse". The development of a clinically-based symposium is under discussion. Each month, the Arizona Niifsc brings you clinical, as well as educational and research updates.

* AzNA has developed membership pins which may be purchased for $5 so individuals may show pride in belonging to their association.

* The AzNA office sends personal notes to individuals whose memberships are in danger of lapsing. Every member is important, regardless of education, specialty, or setting.

Chapter Strengthening

* The AzNA Membership Director is progressively meeting with each chapter board of directors quarterly to celebrate successes and to develop membership initiatives specific to that chapter.

* Chapters are contacted monthly by the AzNA membership committee to maintain the established relationship and assist with any chapter needs.

* A "Chapter Leadership" Retreat is under development to mentor new chapter board of directors into their roles and to establish relationships among chapter boards.

While the AzNA Membership Committee is hard at work, success cannot be achieved in a vacuum. We still need your help. May is AzNA's "Membership Marathon" month. This is your chance to show pride in your professional nursing organization and participate in building AzNA's membership. Invite others to meetings and tell them about the benefits you receive as a member of AzNA. Commit yourself to becoming more involved in chapter activities. Build relationships with other AzNA members and together we can make this association not only a positive experience, but an absolutely vital part of nursing in Arizona!
