Interdisciplinary Workshop - Research to Practice: Intervention to Manage Difficult Behavior's Associated with Alzheimer's Disease

Central District was very pleased to host the Interdisciplinary Workshop in Red Deer on Oct. 8, 1998. More than 60 health professionals and support staff from across the district attended this very informative session, facilitated by Dorothy Forbes from the Ad Hoc Dissemination Committee.

Our thanks to local presenters Judy Brownlee and Star Siler (psychogeriatric outreach nurses for the David Thompson Regional Health Authority) and to Jo Kolm and Arlene Cline (clinical coordinator and program coordinator for the Specialized Dementia Unit of the Alberta Hospital in Ponoka), for taking time out of their busy schedules to share their successes in working with Alzheimer's clients. Personal thanks to Dorothy Forbes and Linda Brinks, from Three Hills for their assistance in making the workshop a great success.

On Oct. 6, 1998, Susan Davis, AARN Investigations Officer, gave an excellent presentation about substance abuse in nursing to 25 registered nurses and students at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. The forum provided those in attendance with a realistic view about substance abuse in nursing, how to recognize the problem and the role we must take when a colleague is found to have a substance abuse problem.

Our thank you to Susan Davis for her presentation and we wish her well in her future endeavors.
