Mount Royal college program tackles nursing shortage

Alberta RN,  May/Jun 2000

Registered nurses now have access to onsite full-time fast track training in Edmonton and Calgary in critical care and emergency nursing, two areas that are experiencing acute nursing shortages. The Advanced Studies in Critical Care Nursing (ACNN) program at Mount Royal College will begin offering the 16-week full-time onsite programs in September 2000.

Nurses who complete the program will receive a Certificate (Level I - Basic Program) from Mount Royal College. Nurses can also take the theory portion of the program through distance education while continuing to work. They must, however, participate in onsite clinical courses in either Edmonton or Calgary. The tuition fee is approximately $1,840 and $650 for books and materials.

The program is open to registered nurses who are members of the Alberta Association of Registered Nurses and have a current certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS). Although new graduates will be considered, preference will be given to RNs with at least one year of recent acute care nursing practice experience.

Interested registered nurses should contact the ACCN Program at Mount Royal College, (403) 240-6755 or toll-free at 1-888-240-7202.
