Letters to the Editor
Alberta RN, Sep 2004
I would like to address, in this letter, an issue that has confounded me for the past 15 years. It involves the posting and circulation of notices on the nursing unit that seek to denigrate men.
Over the years I have seen postings in nursing units that focus on male genital mutilation, sodomy and dismemberment. The common denominator seems to be sexual humiliation. The most recent example is a desk calendar that sat at the nursing desk on our unit. I would like to warn my colleagues that these calendars, which are distributed widely and available for sale in local malls, contain vulgar references.

To those registered nurses who signed my nomination papers and to those who returned their ballots in my favour, please accept my sincere appreciation for your support! As your elected Edmonton/West provincial councillor I look forward to advocating for our public and for all nurses.
With the solid base launched by past councils, we have a marvelous opportunity to build on their positive vision for nursing and offer a solid proficient advocacy for our profession and the public we serve.
Many, many thanks. Working with you and for you I look forward to keeping in touch.
Fraternally and sincerely,
Jane Walker
