Community Health Nurses Launch CARNA Specialty Practice Group

The Community Health Nurses of Alberta (CHNA) is now an official specialty practice group of the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). CHNA is an online organization of more than 90 members that promotes networking opportunities for Alberta's community health nurses (CHNs) through its website and online blackboard at www.chnalberta.org.

Opportunities on the Online Blackboard include:

* CHN resources such as Community Action Toolkits, CHN Specialty Areas, Canadian Health Reports, Population Health Promotion and Primary Health Care

* networking with CHNs across Alberta

* sharing issues, best practices and suggestions for practice challenges

* community health nursing links

CHNA memberships are now available for $20 per year. For more information on membership, or for an application form, contact chnalberta@shaw.ca or the membership area of our website at www.chnalberta.org.

Current CHNA members, please e-mail chnalberta@shaw.ca to receive your username/password and blackboard instructions.

There are two ways that members of the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) can submit resolutions to the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) for its 2006 annual meeting on June 21, 2006 in Saskatoon.

1) Individual member resolution:

Any individual member may submit a written resolution, signed by the member, directly to the CNA Resolutions Committee prior to the deadline.

Deadline for submission is March 31,2006.

2) Potential jurisdictional resolution:

Members can submit potential issues to the CARNA Election and Resolutions Committee which could then help craft a resolution for consideration by provincial council at its June 2006 meeting.

Deadline for submission is April 28, 2006.
