Veggies on the market

Update

Remember Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber? They and their fellow veggies (February 2002, page 10) soon will have new owners. Big Idea Productions, makers of the popular VeggieTales video series, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as part of a deal to sell the financially troubled company. Classic Media LLC will buy Big Idea's assets, which include copyrights to Bob, Larry and the other characters.

Big Idea grossed more than $24 million on last year's Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie. But company founder and CEO Phil Vischer said, "We got ourselves upside down financially when everything was working wonderfully," adding that he made some bad decisions. Big Idea plans to continue making VeggieTale videos, but a second film is now on hold. Classic Media says it's committed to growing Big Idea's brand.
