California wildfire cleanup continues

Lutheran, The, Jun 2004

More than a year later, Lutherans continue to provide aid to those affected by the wildfires that swept through Southern California.

"Our commitment is for the long haul," says Gil Furst, director of Lutheran Disaster Response, which has provided $199,654 to Lutheran Social Services of Southern California for case management, emergency grants and unmet needs.

LDR also is co-sponsoring (with the California-Pacific United Methodist Conference) a caseworker to reach out through the San Pasqual Tribal Council to American Indians affected by the fires.

LDR continues to respond to damage caused by floods in Ohio; storms in Northwest Washington; Hurricane Isabel in North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware; and Hurricane Claudette in Texas.
