Cup of justice filling up

Lutheran, The, Aug 2004

UPDATE

Before coffee-loving Lutherans got "The 90-Ton Challenge" to boost their consumption of fairly traded coffee last October, sales of the Equal Exchange brand through Lutheran World Relief had totaled 37.5 tons for the previous year. But by May 2004, LWR had already sold more than 60 tons-with the challenge continuing through September.

The drive, a joint project of LWR, Equal Exchange and Women of the ELCA, is an effort to improve the lives of the more than 20 million coffee farmers worldwide. Many struggle to earn enough to provide food, shelter, health care and education for their families. Equal Exchange, a U.S. worker-owned fair-trade organization, assists small farmers to finance independent coffee production. To learn more, visit www.lu theranwomantoday.org.
