GPS project progressing

Chesapeake and Ohio Historical Magazine,  Sep 2000

As reported in the October 1999 Magazine, CSX is equipping its entire locomotive fleet with the GE Harris Pinpoint GPS System. The work is being done at several shops across the system using kits supplied by GE. By mid-June over 700 units had been equipped. Of this number roughly 34% were SD40-2s, 16% CW44AC's, 21% GP40-2s, and 10% CW40-8s with a few units from many classes making up the rest.

The installation is readily discernable by the application of a white plastic dome applied to the rear of the fireman's side of the cab roof.
