EMDX and LLPX units integrated into CSX roster
Chesapeake and Ohio Historical Magazine, Dec 2000
As reported in the September 2000 issue, 25 SD70M's, three SD60s, and three GP60s have been acquired by CSX in a deal with Locomotive Leasing Partners and EMD.
So far 13 of the SD70M's have been renumbered. The choice of number series for these new units was a surprise to everyone. They are being numbered in the 4600s. This series was originally allotted for unrebuilt SD40s that had been relegated to yard and local service. The three GP60s have been renumbered in the 6800s, a slot previously used for GP40s. None of the three SD60s have been renumbered yet. Given the odd series chosen for the other models, any speculation is conjecture of the riskiest kind. There is a slot open from 8787-8799, however, that would make a logical choice.
CHESSIE ROUNDUP
As reported in the September Magazine the number of Chessie-painted units is now in the single digits. As of late October the following units, all GP40s, remained on the roster: 6565, 6602, 6605, 6608, 6627, 6629, 6635, 6639, and 6854.
