Unisys and VSoft Collaborate on Check Image Quality

Today, Apr 2005

VSoft, (www.vsoftcorp.com), and Unisys, (www.unisys.com), have announced a new Check 21 image quality solution, powered by VSoft's Genesis Image Quality Manager and Unisys' Image Usability Analysis software. The VSoft and Unisys image software will be beta tested at Farmers National Bank, an independent community bank with 16 offices located in Canfield, Ohio.

"As banks and financial institutions begin exchanging digital check images in place of paper checks under the Check 21 act, check image quality becomes vital," said Gary Wallen, VP of Unisys Payment Systems Division. "Banks can reduce their cost of providing high quality images through the use of our Quality and Usability software."

The solution examines twelve important elements of the check image, such as signature presence, courtesy amount, MICR codeline, and date. It also ensures that images meet quality thresholds defined by the American National Standards Institute as part of the Check 21 definition for image exchange.

The software views the "image suspects" flagged by the Unisys software, and permits an operator at a PC workstation to request an immediate recapture of images that have a high probability of returns because of image quality. Banks using image quality tool can identify images from items that are skewed, folded, or torn before they are exchanged with correspondent banks, reducing the risk and the high cost of recapturing checks after they clear.

"VSoft has enjoyed a productive and strategic relationship with Unisys for many years," said Murthy Veeraghanta, president, VSoft. "Because of Check 21's influence on the check processing industry, it was imperative that VSoft develop a strong solution."
