CMC Electronics was selected to supply Ku-band TDRSS Transmitters for the NASA/GSFC GLAST (Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope) satellite program. GLAST is part of the Structure and Evolution (SEU) of the Universe theme, one of four major science themes within the NASA Office of Space Science. Through the SEU program, scientists seek to explore the limits of gravity and energy in the Universe, explain the structure of the Universe, and forecast our "cosmic destiny". The GLAST satellite observatory is designed to make observations of celestial gamma-ray sources. The launch of the satellite is scheduled for 2006.
The transmitters will provide the primary means for transmitting spacecraft mission data and spacecraft state-of-health telemetry through NASA's Tracking and Data Relay Satellite Network, and to ground receiving stations.
CMC Electronics' Space Electronics business specializes in the design, development, and manufacture of high-reliability electronic equipment designed and qualified for use on missiles, launch vehicles, and spacecraft. Its launch vehicle/missue avionics and spacecraft transmitters, receivers, and transceivers are supplied to the aerospace industry for programs that include Atlas and Delta, launch vehicles, and planetary and Earth science's spacecraft.
