3D Optical Profiler

Ambios Technology's (Santa Cruz, CA) Xi-100 is a low cost, high performance noncontact 3D optical profiler designed for fast and accurate precision step height and surface roughness measurements. It delivers precise, high-resolution, non-contact 3D profiles of both smooth and rough surfaces. The Xi-100 measures areas as large as 2.016 mm x 2.016 mm with a Z range of 100 urn. Fused Silica Wafers

Sydor Optics (Rochester, NY) now manufactures wafers up to 300 mm in diameter, and thickness down to 0.2 mm (size dependant) with thickness tolerances down to ±0.003 mm. Standard wafer diameters include 50, 100, 150, 200, and 300 mm and are usually delivered in less than 2 weeks. Processed using double-sided equipment, the wafers have under 20 seconds of wedge with transmitted wavefront error under one wave (exception to wafers under 1 mm in thickness). Stock wafer blank material is Corning 7980 Fused Silica. Also available is fused silica made of Heraeus Amersil and Schott Lithotec fused silicas, and non-fused silica materials (i.e. Borofloat, BK-7, and B270).

Micromachining Laser System

LaserMill(TM) from New Wave Research (Fremont, CA) is a Nd:YAG laser micro-milling machine featuring switchable wavelength operation (between 532 nm and 355 nm with one click) for machining a variety of materials. It fits on most workbenches (18'' x 30'' footprint) and is equipped with 100 mm x 100 mm stages, a high-magnification video microscope, and a continuously variable, rotating XY shutter yielding cut sizes down to nearly 1 mm. Intuitive software allows users to draw and machine holes and complex patterns or to import and run DXF CAD files. The energy density at the sample is adjustable up to 25 J/cm^sup 2^.

Flat-Field Spectrometer

McPherson (Chelmsford, MA) offers spectrometers optimized for the Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) and Soft X-ray wavelength regions. The new flat field toroidal grating instrument works over two fixed wavelength ranges. Gratings are available for 1 nm to 5 nm and 5 nm to 20 nm (248 to 62-eV). The angle of incidence and aberration corrections are optimized for the area of interest. The effective blaze wavelengths are about 1.6 nm and 10 nm respectively. Pulsed Fiber Laser

The Model PF1550-30 from Aculight Corp. (Bothell, WA) is a pulsed fiber laser that generates eye-safe, short pulses over a wide repetition rate range. Based on erbium-doped fiber technology, it delivers 1.54 pm light output via a single-mode fiber. The device generates nominally 1 ns pulses at repetition rates between 100 kHz and 1 MHz, and produces 1 W of average power and 1.2 kW of peak power at 1 MHz. The laser measures just 10'' × 10'' × 4'' and weighs 15 lbs. Applications include laser range finding, range imaging LIDAR, fiber optic sensing, communications, micrornachining, and as a seed source for high-power amplifiers.
