Fluoxetine new available in 10-mg scored tablet

Nurse Practitioner, Aug 1999

Eli Lilly's antidepressant fluoxetine (Prozac) is now approved for marketing in a scored 10-mg tablet. The new tablet is designed to provide greater dosing flexibility for both patients and clinicians, according to Eli Lilly.

Although a standard 20-mg dosage is usually appropriate for patients taking fluoxetine, clinicians may wish to prescribe less than 20 mg/day, particularly for elderly patients, Lilly states. The scored fluoxetine tablet will provide additional flexibility and benefits for patients with obsessivecompulsive disorder and bulimia who achieve a therapeutic response with doses between 40 mg/day and 60 mg/day.
