Norton SystemWorks 2001

Nurse Author & Editor, Spring 2001 by Johnson, Suzanne Hall

Norton SystemWorks(TM) 2001. Symantec Corporation, 20330 Stevens Creek Blvd, Cupertino, CA 95014.

(http:llwww.symantec. com).

Norton SystemWorks(TM) 2001 is a utilities program for the computer user, not just the computer expert. It has three main functions that can help you keep your computer running efficiently, safely, and smoothly. Norton AntiVirus(TM) can continually monitor and fix viruses on hard drives or disks and in e-mail. Norton Utilities' diagnoses and fixes both disk and Windows problems, while Norton CleanSwee(TM)l helps remove Internet clutter and files you do not need (and don't want) on your computer.

With the program, I was able to find and fix two files that had viruses, defragment my hard drive, recover a file that I had deleted, correct several incorrect items in my registry files, condense and save a program that I don't need but might want later, remove over 50 unwanted Internet "cookies," make rescue disks, and back up my registry files. I was able to "fine tune" my computer myself without hiring a computer professional. There are many other features in this program, but I did miss the "crash guard" feature that was available in previous versions.

This upgraded version of the popular utilities program runs on Windows ME and 2000 as well as Windows 95 and 98. (A similar program, Norton SystemWorks for Macintosh(R) is also available.)

Authors and editors who download files from the Internet weekly, move and delete files often, add or remove programs frequently, and need their computer system to run seamlessly will find this program extremely helpful. - Suzanne Hall Johnson, MN, RN,C, CNS, Editor, Nurse Author & Editor.
