Nursing Editors Speak Out on Timely Topics

Peggy L. Chinn,

Editor of Advances in Nursing Science

The primary purposes of Advances in Nursing Science (ANS) are to contribute to the development of nursing science and to promote the application of emerging theories and research findings to practice. Articles deal with any of the processes of science, including research, theory development, concept analysis, practical application of research and theory, and investigation of the values and ethics that influence the practice and research endeavors of nursing sciences. Each issue is focused on a general topic, and manuscripts must be submitted by the date indicated for an identified issue topic. Upcoming topics and manuscript submission deadlines are:

* Health Variables: Economics and Class (January, 15, 2003, deadline). For this issue, we seek manuscripts that address economic and class issues as variables related to health. In particular, we welcome manuscripts with an international dimension and manuscripts that account for governmental and non-governmental policy influencing economics and class, and in turn health. Empirical research, theory, or philosophic perspectives are welcome.

* Health and the World Wide Web (April 15, 2003, deadline). We welcome manuscripts that address the health influence, use, and outcomes of the World Wide Web. Emphasis is on the particular perspective and role of nurses and nursing related to health and the Web. Empirical research, theory, or philosophic perspectives are welcome.

* Nursing Care Management (July 15, 2003, deadline). Manuscripts will be considered that address theoretical, philosophical, or empirical perspectives that inform advances in nursing care management. Emphasis will be on ideas and evidence that can shape the future of nursing care management and that have potential for improving nursing care delivery.

See additional information for authors on the ANS Internet site (http://www. nursing.uconn.edu/ANS.html). Correspondence regarding publication should be addressed to Peggy L. Chinn, RN, PhD, Editor, University of Connecticut, School of Nursing, 231 Glenbrook Rd., Storrs, CT, 06269-2026 (email: plchinn@uconnvm.uconn.edu).

Carolyn B. Yucha, Editor of Biological Research for Nursing

Biological Research for Nursing delivers to nurses basic, clinical, and applied research about biological changes in healthy and unhealthy populations. The journal publishes peer-reviewed articles that address issues such as:

* Theoretical foundations that increase understanding of biological and physiological changes in health and illness.

* Enhancements in health care inter- ventions developed through biological and physiological research findings.

* New methods, instruments, and techniques for biological and physiological research.

Biological Research for Nursing is actively seeking research papers, theoretical articles, literature reviews, methodological papers, and editorials that have the potential to influence nursing care. We invite papers from scientists and researchers in all of the basic and clinical health sciences, including but not limited to Anesthesiology, Biochemistry, Cardiology, Clinical Nutrition, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Genetics, Hematology, Immunology, Infectious Disease, Microbiology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Neonatology, Nephrology, Neuroscience, Oncology, Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal Specialties, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Pulmonology, Reproductive Biology, and Urology.

In addition, Biological Research for Nursing is soliciting dissertation abstracts (approximately 250 words) about biological research that is especially applicable to nursing practice. Dissertations should have been defended within the last two years.

Biological Research for Nursing is currently abstracted and indexed in CINAHL, Index Medicus, and MEDLINE.

Author guidelines are available online at www.sagepub.com, click on the Bio- logical Research for Nursing Home Page, then click on Submission Guidelines. For queries about appropriate topics for the journal or works in progress, contact Carolyn Yucha, RN, PhD, (yuchacb@nursing.ufl.edu). Submit arti- cles by emailing one copy of the manuscript as an attachment to Marnie Wiss (mwiss@nursing.ufl.edu), Managing Edi- tor, College of Nursing, Health Science Center, University of Florida.

Rose Steele, Director-in-Chief of the Canadian Oncology Nursing Journal

Canadian Oncology Nursing Journal (CONJ) publishes articles about all aspects of oncology nursing-clinical practice, research, education, and administration. We are currently looking for original manuscripts in any of these areas. Articles with a pediatric focus are especially welcome.

New authors may prefer to write a short article (about 500 words) for our Memo From Members section, which provides an opportunity for oncology nurses to share innovative ideas and clinical practices with their peers.

CONJ is a peer-reviewed journal. Articles should be submitted in APA format (5th ed.) and should be no longer than 15 double-spaced pages, exclusive of title page, references, and tables. Inquiries to the editor are welcome. CONJ is an officially bilingual journal and articles will be published in the language of submission (French or English only). The abstract will be published in the other language, and some articles will be wholly translated. Book reviewers across Canada are frequently needed.
