Advances in Skin & Wound Care, Nov/Dec 2000
How supplied
Sterile island dressing: 2 3/4" x 3 1/2", 4 1/4" x 4 1/4", 5 7/8" x 7 3/4", 7" x 7", 7" x 7" sacrum
Action
TIELLE Hydropolymer Adhesive Dressing is an exudatehandling system for wounds with light to moderate exudate. The dressing is comprised of four distinct functional components put together in an island configuration, The first layer is the absorbent hydropolymer wound contact surface that gently expands and fills irregular contours to the wound minimizing exudate build up and the chance of maceration. The second layer is the internal nonwoven wicking layer that pulls excess moisture away from the hydropolymer and increases the surface area for vapor transfer through the back of the dressing. The third layer is the polyurethane backing, which readily permits moisture vapor and atmospheric gas transfer. The polyurethane backing is soft and smooth to the touch, highly elastic and conformable. The fourth layer is the polyurethane adhesive. The proprietary formulation offers secure attachment to the skin and is highly cohesive, enabling wrinkles or folds in the dressing to be pulled apart without compromising the adhesive performance when reapplied. TELLE Hydropolymer Adhesive Dressing maintains a moist wound environment.
Indications
To manage both chronic and superficial wounds with light to moderate exudate, including pressure ulcers (Stages I to IV, venous ulcers (partial- and full-thickness), and diabetic ulceration. Also suitable for use under compression bandaging. May be used for infected wounds when proper medical treatment addresses the underlying cause.
Contraindications
Contraindicated for full-thickness bums and for lesions with active vasculitis.
Dressing Selection
The size of dressing selected should allow the hydropolymer central island to overlap the wound edge by approximately 1 cm.
Application
* Prepare the wound according to wound management protocol.
* Ensure that the skin surrounding the wound is dry.
* Peel open the package and remove the dressing.
* Partially peel back the side backing papers.
* Position the hydropolymer central island over the wound site and smooth into place.
* One at a time, peel away the side backing papers while smoothing the adhesive border onto intact skin.
Removal
Roll the back comer of the dressing and gently ease the dressing away from the wound center. On fragile or friable skin, sterile water or saline may be used to break the adhesive seal.
