At our Board of Directors meeting this past October, we discussed having a new long range plan as a valuable tool to foster growth in EAIA's programs and services. Before developing the plan, however, we need to get members' input to evaluate our current status and receive ideas for future directions. To do this, planners have begun work with a SWOT analysis which views an organization's Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.

Evaluation of strengths and weaknesses is a clear approach to looking at what we are doing now and getting an idea of what is and is not working. To approach our future by looking at opportunities and threats will give us perspectives of new directions to move the EAIA and some of the challenges we might face as we head along.

We need input from members, both new and longtime, to have the basis upon which to develop our new long range plan. We had initially considered placing a response form in this issue of Shavings. But to save paper and receive responses more quickly, it will be cheaper and faster for many of you to send an e-mail response. Use SWOT as the subject for it, so I will know immediately what is coming in.
