2005 TOOL TOUR TO SCOTLAND AND ENGLAND

The response to this year's tool tour has been very gratifying. I've been in touch with our veteran courier, Chris Hoodith, to ask her to have a look at the itinerary and see what antiques centers or shops might be within a reasonable reach so that the tour can again offer the "Daily Tool Fix." Among the special things we will see that are not normally available to the public is the Goodmanham plane from ancient Roman times, discovered in Yorkshire in 2000. (See Vol. 13 of Tools & Trades, the journal of TATHS, for an article about it.) At Sheffield, we will have a private tour of the great Hawley Collection. At the Kelham Island Museum, we will see the collection of woodworking tools that are not on public display. These are of course in addition to the standard fare of great buildings, museums, and ancient towns. For the full itinerary and answers to any questions you may have, contact Discover Europe, Ltd. at (866) 563-7077.
