Wisconsin: Non-English speakers will get aid in courts

Juvenile Justice Digest, Apr 3, 2003

Gov. Jim Doyle asked the legislature to fund new court services that would hire or train personnel to interpret for defendants who are not fluent in English.

The governor supported the request of the court system, which has introduced a training and certification program.

Authorities said the number of persons whose first language is not English has risen rapidly. One in every 25 persons in Milwaukee speaks a language other than English.
