Nevada: Budget cuts hit school officers
Juvenile Justice Digest, Apr 3, 2003
Gov. Kenny Guinn's proposal to trim state spending would require some school districts to reduce or eliminate school resource officers.
Phil Gervasi, president of the Clark County School District Police Officers Association, said the cuts would result in rapid growth of youth gangs.
Gervasi said the Clark district alone has already identified 9,000 gang members in schools. The district has 140 officers in 277 schools.
