SolidSpeed Networks launches peer-to-peer Web performance measurement technology

Customer Inter@ction Solutions, Apr 2001

SolidSpeed Networks, Inc., a provider of distributed computing technology, has launched a patent-pending data engine to track Web site performance. The engine, called Probester, employs thousands of idle, yet connected, PCs to measure the performance of Web sites from the end users desktop. This technology was designed to provide an accurate and direct measurement of site speed and reliability. There are three major differences between Probester and traditional Web site performance measuring tools. First, Probester measures site performance from the edge of the network (i.e., the desktop) versus an internal Internet backbone location. Second, Probester measures from thousands of Internet locations, gaining a more relevant performance picture. Finally, SolidSpeed can offer the Probester data engine at 50 to 75 percent less than the prices charged by many other technology Web site performance measurement companies. Typically, performance measurement companies place computers on the Internet called probes. Those probes measure download speeds of various Web sites from a limited number of fixed locations. Probester is different because rather than using a limited number of fixed probes, it employs an ever-changing mix of thousands of probes to more accurately reflect the real experience of the end user. www.solidspeed.com
