Polycom adds SIP support for IP telephony products

Polycom, Inc., a player in the convergence of interactive voice, video, data and Web communications, has announced it will support Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) on its standards-based SoundPoint IP 500 desktop phones and SoundStation IP 3000 conference phones. With the addition of SIP, Polycom voice-over-IP (VoIP) phones will support the major IP telephony platforms and protocols, including IETF MGCP, ITU H.323 and Cisco SCCP. Polycom includes SIP support on both desktop and conference phones, which aims to offer customers a flexible choice with broad support for IP telephony solutions.
