Passamaquoddy Bay

Hudson Review, The, Autumn 2002 by Sexton, Tom

The moon was lifting the bay

like a bowl of hammered silver

from the dark, or so it seemed to us

who had not seen it for many years.

We left the house and walked past

the summer cottages down to the water

where we watched in silence,

our tongues as mute as lead.

Later, we placed our last bowl

of blackberries on a table by the window.
