AAACN's 2006 31st Annual Conference
The 2006 Conference Planning Committee is lining up speakers for the AMCN 31 st Annual Conference, set for March 23-27, 2006, in Atlanta, GA. Concurrent sessions that will educate, energize, and engage participants are many and diverse. The Planning Committee has carefully considered the varying places where our members and attendees work, as well as the patients under our care. Because ambulatory care nursing is so diverse, a concerted effort to provide sessions that will provide food for thought for all our colleagues was undertaken, and the committee is pleased with its efforts and hope you are as well.
Evidence-Based Practice is front and center this year, with several sessions designed to make us think about what we are already doing, and what we could do to improve our patient care in a thoughtful and meaningful way. Cecelia Grindel, PhD, starts us off with a session describing the need for and the basics of Evidence-Based Practice. Carol Rutenberg follows later with an explanation of "Decision Making in Uncertain Conditions: On the Basis of the Evidence." For those interested in nursing economics, Sheila Haas and Ida Androwich will present a 2-part session on "Nursing Interventions Classification and Nursing Outcomes Classification (NIC/NOC)."
As so many of AAACN's members work in the telehealth arena, several sessions on varying concerns for this specialty are evident including Jennifer Nitschmann's "Telehealth Nursing: The Compass for the Future" and Pat Reynaga's "Creating a Flexible Expanding Role for Hospital Based TeleHealth Nursing Practice." Nursing standards, an important component of both ambulatory and telehealth nursing, are highlighted with two sessions: Margaret Mastal and Sherry Smith will talk with us about "AAACN Standards of Practice: Your Chance to Participate" while Carol Rutenberg will update us on "Scope of Practice and Telehealth Nursing: An Update."
For those interested in clinical topics, Dr. William Atkinson will be with us to share information about "Pandemics, New Vaccines, and Other Coming Attractions," Shirley Kedrowski will enlighten us about "Patient Safety Goals," Maryann Sherman will lead a discussion about "Clinical Experiences of BSN Students in an Ambulatory Care Setting," and Lt. Steven Brant will share his experiences with "Cutting Edge Forensic Nursing: Setting up a SANE Program in the Ambulatory Care Setting." Other exciting sessions you won't want to miss are Elaine Scherer, from ANCC, talking about "Magnet Status," and Maj. Tracy Kaeslin assisting us to use "Emotional Intelligence." Our pre-conference session, lead by our very own Shirley Kedrowski, is entitled "Achieving Accreditation: Updates on Standards, Tracer Methods, Periodic Performance Review, and Much More!" Shirley is a fantastic speaker, and receives rave reviews for her insight into the accreditation process. Consider spending this time with her. These are only a sample of the sessions and the exciting information that will be available to you in Atlanta. In addition to motivational speakers and informative sessions, there will be plenty of networking and fun! Join us this March in Atlanta at the AAACN Annual Conference. Make plans to attend and be energized!
