Annual CONFERENCE NEWS

AAACN Viewpoint,  Nov/Dec 2006

LAS VEGAS

Moderators Needed

Moderators introduce speakers using a provided introduction. They also help to distribute handouts, keep the session on time, and troubleshoot room or AV problems. If you will be at the conference and would like to participate as a moderator for one or two of the sessions you are planning to attend, please contact Pat Reichart at reichartp@ajj.com

Silent Auction Needs Your Donations!

While you are holiday shopping, please think about purchasing an item to donate to the Silent Auction, which will take place at the Opening Reception of AAACN's 32nd Annual Conference, Thursday evening, March 29, 2007, in Las Vegas. Jewelry, gift baskets from your area of the country, nursing memorabilia, gift certificates, and handmade items all generate high bids.

The money raised from the auction goes to the AAACN Scholarship Program, which provides funding for academic and professional activities. You do not need to attend the meeting to donate. If you have questions about the auction or know what you will be contributing, please send your questions or your item's description and value to Pam DelMonte at pamela.delmonte@med.va.gov

Scholarship Deadline Approaching

We have money to award, but there are usually very few applications received! If you take a few minutes to apply, your chances are very good to win one of AAACN's scholarships or awards if you submit your application by the January 15th deadline! Review the criteria by downloading the application from the Web site or contacting Pat Reichart at reichartp@ajj.com. Applications are available for the following: Scholarships, Research Grants, or the Administrative and Clinical Excellence Awards.

It's Dues Renewal Time

Most memberships expire on December 31st. By now, you should have received your dues renewal notice. Don't let your renewal get lost in the holiday rush! We encourage you to pay your dues to ensure your Viewpoint newsletter, your choice of journals, and other membership benefits continue uninterrupted. If you are attending the conference or taking the certification exam at the conference, renewal of your membership will entitle you to a $150 savings on the conference registration fee and $70 off the exam.

Have Your Core Autographed In Las Vegas

Because the AAACN Core Curriculum for Ambulatory Care Nursing (2nd ed.) is as big to AAACN as a NY Times best seller or an award-winning autobiography, we will be offering a book signing in the Exhibit Hall during the Annual Conference in Las Vegas. If you would like to make your Core "one of a kind" by having it autographed by the chapter authors and editor, Candy Laughlin, bring your copy to Las Vegas or purchase one onsite. This is your chance to talk to the experts who wrote the Core. Don't miss this exciting event in Las Vegas!

AAACN Telehealth Nursing Practice Pearl of Wisdom

Once a person commits to providing a service, that person assumes a duty of care even if there was no obligation to provide this service. This rule applies whether the client in the office or on the telephone. In telehealth nursing, tha RN assumes a duty of care when she or he responds to a call by giving advice or information. Negligent undertaking-could arise in the following ways-during a call:

* On hold/abandonment.

* Interruptions.

* Delay in responding.

* No accommodation for hearing impaired callers.

* No accommodation for language barriers.
