Social Studies Review, Fall 2001 by Rocca, Al M
The Social Studies ReviewSpring/Summer issue for 2001, dedicated to "Religion and the Public Schools," provided teachers and educators with numerous authoritative and helpful articles. I want to thank our guest editor, Marcia Beauchamp, and the talented educators that contributed articles and resources to that issue. Teachers will be able to garner effective strategies on how to teach religion in the classroom, and they will have readily available resources to successfully implement those strategies.

In this issue, Margaret "Peg" Hill, our guest editor, has focused on the content and pedagogy foundations for understanding social studies in the elementary school curriculum. Teachers at the elementary grade levels throughout the state are continually challenged to spend more and more of their time on the reading and math curriculum. In many cases, other subjects suffer--this is particularly true for social studies. To address this concern in this issue, we offer a wide variety of teaching strategies and resources that cover the subject areas of history, geography and citizenship education. Also take note of our special interest article on classroom management, our well written student articles, and our popular column contributions. The Social Studies Review is always looking for articles from teachers, students, and other social studies educators, of all grade levels. Why not share that wonderful resource or teaching method with 2,500 other instructors and readers of the RevieW The submission requirements are given in the back of this issue; or, just e-mail me with your ideas. On behalf of CCSS, I hope you are having a inspiring and rewarding school year. Don't miss our Spring/ Summer issue entitled, "Social Studies for the Gifted and Talented," with guest editor Margaret Gosfield.
