Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony
The Lamp lighting and Oath taking ceremony of 2nd batch of B. Sc. Nursing and 1st Batch of Diploma Nursing students of Sahyadri Institute of Health Sciences sponsored by Bhandari Foundation was held on 30/1/04 at Lions Seva Mandir, Mangalore. Major Ved Prakash, Chief Secretary, AICC was the Chief guest and inaugurated the function. He appreciated the services rendered by the nurses and mentioned the opportunities for nurses all over the world.
Mr. Narayana Swamy, President, Sarvodaya Institute of Health Sciences, the other chief guest, wished the institute should reach the heights.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, General Secretary, K.P.C.C., President of Sahyadri Institute of Health Sciences, highlighted the qualities of the institute.
Mrs. Luna Maben, Nursing Suptdt. Wenlock District Hospital, Mangalore and Mrs. Mallika, Principal, Lakshmi College of Nursing, handed over the lighted lamps to the students.
Mr. Abey Mathew, Vice Principal, recited the Florence Nightingale Pledge. Asst. Lecturers, Mrs. Neetha Jayavanth welcomed and Mrs. Nisha John thanked the gathering. Mr. Sumesh Babu, compered the program. The Programme concluded with a short cultural Programme.
Republic Day Celebrations
The M. A. Chidambaram College of Nursing, VHS, Adyar, Chennai, celebrated the 55th Republic day.
Shri. C.D.V. Raghavulu, Trustee, Gandhian Integrated Forum Trust, Chennai was the Chief Guest. Students from our College & School of Nursing including NSS Volunteers participated in the March Past. There was Flag hoisting by the chief guest, patriotic songs by students and an inspiring speech by Kum. D. Bhavani, 1st Yr. B.Sc. (N). The Chief guest, opined that " Free India is based not on the majority of any religion, sect or community but on the representatives of the people without religious distinction."
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Kum. Kalpana Devi, Treasurer, SNA, V semester B.Sc. (N)
Lamp Lighting Ceremony
Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College (KGNC) attached to Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute (MGMC & RI), Pondicherry celebrated their first Lamp Lighting ceremony for B. Sc. (N) students, on 02.02.2004. The chief guest Prof. K. S. V. K. Subba Rao, Dir., JIPMER, Pondicherry, lighted the lamp. Prof. Mrs. S. Kamalam, Principal, KGNC welcomed all and the freshers took oath.
The chief guest mentioned about the Nurses' Pivotal role and their role between the physician and the patient.
Prof. D. S. Dubey, Dir. MGMC & RI, presided overthe function, emphasized on the spirit, Florence Nightingale stood for.
Mrs. Gnanapushpam David, C. N. D. JIPMER, fit the Nightingale Lamp and insisted on the concept "Tend patients tenderly"
Vote of thanks was given by Mrs. Hemalatha Ravi, Lecturer KGNC, Pillaiyarkuppam, Pondi-cherry.
Lamp Lighting Ceremony
Adhiparasakthi College of Nursing, Melmaruvathur, T. N. Celebrated the Lamp Lighting ceremony of XI batch of B. Sc. (N) on 24.01.2004
The welcome address was given by Prof. N. Kokilavani, Principal who presented the lamp to the students.
The chief guest, Mr. T. Ramesh, M. D. of Adhiparasakthi Hospital & Research Institute, lighted the lamp. Mr. Jayapraksh Narayanan, Asst. Registrar, Dr MGR Medical University, Prof Indrani Dasarathan, Vice Principal, College of Nursing, Madras Medical College and Mrs. Chellammal Mariappan, Vice Principal, the Tamil Nadu Nurses & Midwives Council, presided over the fonction.
Prof. Surendran, Dean of Adhiparasakthi Hospital and Research Institute, Prof. P. Rajanna, M. D. Principal and Prof. T. V. Govindan, M. S. Chief Surgeon also felicitated the function.
The Nurses prayer was read by Mrs. R. Danasu, Asst. Prof. and Mrs. M. J. Kumari, Asst. Prof. led in reciting the Florence Nightingale pledge. The vote of thanks was given by Ms. Sheeba, Asst. Prof.
Health Mela
Students of Inst. of Nursing Science Studies & Research (PNSSR), Gwalior, participated in a3 days (23rd to 25th Jan. 04) Health Mela organised in Dabra, Gwalior by Dept. of H & FW, Govt. of India.
15,000 people were benefited from services provided during mela, which provided free health consultation, various investigations, medicines, eye check-up/operation for cataract, family-planning advice, etc.
Students of INSSR actively participated in all the activities & were supervised by faculty & staff of CHC (Dabra).
Striking Events
The year 2004 for Omayal Achi College of Nursing Chennai, began with a tremendous dynamicity, setting forth the wheel of achievement on a speedy track. A brief report of the events of 2004:
10th Jan 2004: The College along with the Rotary Club of Chennai completed 3 rounds of Hepatitis B Vaccination to students, staff and all other employees of the College.
12th & 13th Jan 2004: The final year M.Sc. (N) students of 2002-2004 batch in co-ordination with the staff organized a two days workshop on the theme "Clinical Supervision A Key To Excellence In Nursing Practice". It was inaugurated by Dr. Taralakshmi, Academic Officer, the T.N.M.G.R. Medical University and 300 delegates from 10 Nursing colleges participated in it.
