What is the most efficient way to deliver quality undergraduate courses given that university budgets are shrinking, no new faculty are being hired, yet undergraduate enrollments are increasing? That is the problem facing numerous universities.
One solution has been to collaboratively develop Internet-based undergraduate courses with other universities. The following are involved in this USDA funded project:
Introduction to Agricultural Education Barry Croom (NCSU), David Agnew (Arkansas State), James Smith (Texas Tech), Tim Murphy (Texas A&M)
Administration and Supervision of Student Organizations Barry Croom (NCSU), Rob Terry (Missouri), Bob Williams (Texas A&M-Commerce), Ben Byler (Tennessee Tech)
Experiential Learning in Agriculture Gary Moore (NCSU), Marvin Kleene (Washington State), Kerry O'Dell (West Virginia University), Marty Frick (Montana State)
Planning Agricultural Educational Programs Beth Wilson (NCSU), Mark Balschweid (Purdue), Bill Camp (Virginia Tech), David Lawver (Texas Tech)
Methods of Teaching Agriculture Jim Flowers (NCSU), Harry Boone (West Virginia University), Dann Husman (Nebraska), David Howell (New Hampshire)
The universities involved will "share" these courses. Universities not involved in the consortium will have full access to the courses and materials, which include interactive pre-tests and PowerPoint presentations. Sharing work and putting it on-line for the world to see should result in higher quality courses and result in less duplication of effort.
