Czech, Philippine churches devastated by storms, floods
UU World: The Magazine of the Unitarian Universalist Association, Jan/Feb 2003 by Skinner, Donald E, Greer, Jane
When the Prague Unitarian Congregation in the Czech Republic and the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Philippines were struck by disaster this summer, Unitarian Universalists worldwide were quick to respond to an appeal for help. And more help is needed.
In August, Palac Unitaria, home of the Prague Unitarian Congregation, was devastated by floods causing widespread damage.
The UU Congregation of the Philippines suffered even greater damage this summer from the heavy rains, flooding, winds, and mudslides resulting from Typhoon Milenyo. Three members of the Jimenez family were killed in the mudslides and many other church families lost their homes and livelihoods. Money is still being solicited to help congregants rebuild.
Contributions to either cause can be sent to the Rev. Olivia Holmes, Office of International Relations, 25 Beacon St., Boston, MA 02108. Checks should be made out to the Unitarian Universalist Association and should include the words "UUCP Calamity Fund" for the Philippines disaster, or "disaster relief, Prague," on the memo line.
