OBITUARIES: Nathaniel Lauriat

The Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Page Lauriat died suddenly on February 22, 2004, following a diagnosis of cancer. He was 81 years of age.
Lauriat was born March 22, 1922, in Newton, Massachusetts. He earned a B.A. at Harvard University and a B.D. and D.D. at Meadville Lombard Theological School. He was ordained in 1946 by the First Unitarian Church of San Jose, California.
During the 50 years of his ministry, Lauriat served congregations in San Jose; Northampton, Massachusetts; Lancaster, Pennsylvania; Hartford, Connecticut; and Sun City, Arizona. The Unitarian Society of Hartford, Connecticut, named him minister emeritus in 1987. After he retired from full-time ministry in 1995, the Unitarian Universalist Church in Surprise, Arizona (formerly the UU Church of the Sun Cities) also named him minister emeritus.
Lauriat was formerly a member of the UUA Board of Trustees, and served on the Ministerial Fellowship Committee and the Annual Program Fund Continental Congress.
Two daughters, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren survive him.
