National Dragster, Oct 31, 2003
The team from Music City Raceway in Hendersonville, Tenn., defended its overall team title at the Southeast Division's NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals, but unlike last year, when the Music City team won by a landslide, this battle couldn't have been closer. Tied at 42 points at the event's conclusion, Music City, defeated the team from New Bama Dragway via a tiebreaker, which proved to be Music City racer Ricky Cooks' victory in the Super Pro Cycle division. Music City also won the Team Spirit award.
In Super Pro, John Wooley captured the win for Silver Dollar Raceway when he defeated Savannah Dragway's Danny Toole in the final. Host track Gainesville Raceway got on the board when Derek Putman defeated Atlanta Dragway's Andy Schaefer in the Pro final. Moroso Motorsports Park's Casey Miles won Sportsman with a final-round victory over New Bama's Brian Fredrickson.
With the conclusion of this event, the roster for the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship, to be run during the NHRA Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals Nov. 6-9 in Pomona, is complete.
Complete coverage of the Division 2 NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals will be in next week's issue.
