Las Vegas Chapter To Grant Record Funds To Children's Charities

National Dragster, Nov 28, 2003

The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities will hold its annual Grant Distribution and Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) Dec. 2 at 6 p.m., when it will grant a total of $250,000 to 41 local children's charities. Both amounts are records for the chapter: This year's total surpasses 2002 by $22,000, and 10 additional local causes will receive grant checks.

"We are extremely pleased to again increase the amount of money granted to a greater number of worthy causes this year," said Keith DeRiso, chairman of the Las Vegas chapter. "Our volunteers worked hard all year, and racers and race fans extended their tremendous generosity to the children of southern Nevada."

Fundraising events for the 2003 season were the annual NASCAR Driver Auction at Sam's Town Live!, the Las Vegas chapter's inaugural golf tournament, Bob & Mike's Third Annual Birthday Bash street rod and race car show, and an NHRA Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series Run-for-the-Money event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The evening's festivities will include a performance by the Culture Shock Las Vegas inner-city dance troupe and a visit from Santa Claus. LVMS General Manager Chris Powell will light the traditional SCC Christmas tree.

The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities will kick off its 2004 fundraising campaign with the NASCAR Driver Auction at Sam's Town Live! March 4.
