National Dragster, Jan 30, 2004

Jim HeaH will drive a Funny Car for the second time in his 24-year drag racing career after driving a Top Fuel dragster since 1989. Head's crew is building the chassis at Alan Johnson's, Santa Maria, Calif., shop. Head will use a new Toyota Celica .body, much like the body Johnson used in his brief stint in Funny Gar a couple of years ago, first with driver Gary Scelzi, then with Bruce Sarver.

Head competed in Top Fuel from 1980 through 1983 and switched to Funny Gar in 1984, the same year he won his first NHRA national event in Indianapolis. he is one of only four drivers to win the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Top Fuel (1997) and Funny Car. Head expects to test the new car in Las Vegas before debuting it at the K&N Filters Winter-nationals. he will fund the effort until a sponsor is secured.
