CAP Avenger Debuts Old-school Look In Houston

National Dragster, Apr 16, 2004

a Bobby and Lori Martin's CAP Avenger, which for the ninth straight year is sponsored hy DaimlerChrysler's College Automotive Program, will sport a nostalgic look in 2004 beginning at the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park. Funny Car racer John Lawson applied the new paint. Longtime Funny Car fans will recognize the influence of great Mopar Funny Cars of the match-race era, such as Don Schumacher's Stardust 'Cuda, Gene Snow's Snowman Charger, and Larry Arnold's Kingfish 'Cuda.

"I caught the Funny Car bug hard when I was a kid," said Martin. "These guys were and are my heroes, and I just loved the look of their cars. Obviously, they had a major impact on me because I'm into this pretty seriously. Like a lot of kids, I built models, read magazines, and played with my 'Snake' and 'Mongoose' Hot Wheels. And another Funny Car hero, 'Awesome John' Lawson, did a lot of special things to make this happen."

The CAP Avenger will make a preview appearance at the North Line Mall, near Houston Community College, April 13 before heading to the track. Houston Community College and Texas State Technical College in Waco are co-sponsoring Martin's appearance.
