Sara Phillips, a nursing student at the University of Mississippi, and Holly Haines, Maul Community College, Kahului, Hawaii are the first recipients of the 3M Littmann Stethoscope Scholarship awards. In 2005, The Littmann Stethoscope Scholarships will be awarded to two undergraduate nursing students. Students may download the scholarship application from www.nsna.org under FOUNDATION.
"Supporting nursing education is an expression of 3M's commitment to responsible citizenship" noted Ned Hancock, 3M Littmann marketing manager. "We believe that investing in the future of nursing through this endowed scholarship fund provides a lasting benefit to the nursing profession."
"The Littmann Stethoscope Scholarship Endowment represents an important milestone for the FNSNA and we are grateful that 3M has taken the lead by establishing FNSNA's first endowed scholarship fund," commented Dr. Diane J. Mancino, FNSNA executive director.
Dr. Mancino explained that since its inception in 1970, the FNSNA has provided thousands of scholarship awards to undergraduate nursing students. However, when funds are contributed on an annual basis, it is always difficult to know for sure how much funding will be available annually. By establishing an endowed scholarship program, funding will always be available to support nursing students with high academic standing and financial need.
3M is a trusted name in innovative auscultation technology and is known for products and ideas that solve problems and improve lives. 3M is a diversified international company with a health care business consisting of over 10,000 medical, surgical, consumer and home health, dental and pharmaceutical products.
