Forty-four patients were selected from women in a burn unit, and randomly assigned to a hypnosis or control group. The treatment group received 4 hypnosis sessions, using a modified version of Joseph Barber's Rapid Induction Analgesia procedure, which included direct suggestions for analgesia and detection of amnesia. Trance depth was determined using the Davis-Husband scale. Procedural pain and anxiety related to physical therapy were evaluated using a visual analogue scale in both groups.
