American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis, Oct 2006 by Wickramasekera, Ian II

Kihslinger, D., & Sapp, M. (2006). Hypnosis and diabetes: Applications for children, adolescents, and adults. Australian Journal of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis, 27(1), 19-27. The authors discuss how hypnosis can be successfully applied in the treatment of diabetes with children, adolescents, and adults.

The authors discuss how hypnosis can be paired with cognitive behavioral interventions to help patients challenge core cognitive distortions which lead them to cope less effectively with diabetes. The authors also discuss how hypnosis may lead to disease improvement in diabetes through other mind/body interactions given the growing body of literature demonstrating the effect of hypnosis on brain functioning and other bodily processes related to glucose regulation. The article concludes by calling for more research into this area which certainly might provide new insights into the nature of hypnosis and the mind/body relationship.
