In fact, Williams suggests in the Printing Applications Laboratory there are several major contracts being worked on with companies that normally would not be associated in any way with printing. Attracting bigname sponsorship now falls on the shoulders of RIT School of Print Media's new leader, Pat Sorce.

RIT took a big hit in 2004, two in fact, when its most high-profile leaders left for the commercial world: Frank Romano joined research firm InfoTrends/CAP Ventures and Barbara Pellow joined Eastman Kodak, as marketing manager for its Graphic Communications Group. Sorce brings more to the position than her own groundbreaking research, as Williams says, "She definitely sees the need to strengthen both the technology and marketing side of the school, and I think that is why I am back." It has often been said that the phenomenal success of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has as much to do with spin as it does with genius.
