Alabama Nurse, Sep-Nov 2003 by Bradford, Robin
District 10 is comprised of five counties in North Alabama, Jackson, Dekalb, Marshall, Madison, and Limestone. The district has very active members. The district currently has two state officers. A meeting is usually held once per quarter, unless bad weather cancels a meeting. We attempt to move the meetings around so each member in each county does not have as far to drive. Each meeting usually consists of a short Board of Directors meeting and then a continuing education class. The district likes to attempt to get sponsors for our meetings so that we can have snacks or a meal provided. Two of the main focuses District 10 has are on providing educational opportunities for our members and working on membership for ASNA. The district holds educational offerings and charges a small fee that helps the district survive financially. In September, the district will hold its annual CE Saturday. This is an all day event designed to provide educational offerings to the nurses in our area that may still need continuing education hours before license renewal. District 10 held a "Heart of Nursing" reception in February of 2003 that had an attendance of over 100. This attendance also included local dignitaries and politicians. District 10 encourages all our members, as well as all nurses in our area, to be politically active. District 10 is currently preparing for the State Convention. District 10 is usually well represented at each convention. The district looks forward to meeting with the other districts to participate in the planning of the future of ASNA.
