For those of you going on the Catch the Wave of Wellness cruise to Cozumel, Mexico we wish you HAPPY SAILING AND SMOOTH SEAS for the duration of your trip. Please bring back lots of pictures of the beautiful sea, sunny sandy beaches, and fun times to share with those who did not get to go.
If you have never been to Cozumel, Mexico you are in for a tremendous treat. Cozumel is the largest island in the Republic of Mexico with approximately 490 square miles. Most of the land and surrounding water have been disignated a National Park in order to preserve the reefs and Maya ruins.
The flora and fauna of this region is tropical at its best. With a good bit of the island covered primarily with scrub and dense underbrush, it provides a fantastic environment for tropical birds (mutilcolored parrots, blue warblers, macaws, egrets, and frigates to name a few), lizards, the large Iguanas, coati, and other wildlife.
Cozumel is one of the world's most spectacular dive destinations with an unbelievable variety of fish, turtles, and coral to be seen underwater, so do take time for some snorkeling or scuba diving. Watch for lobsters, turtles, barracudas, rays, and sleepy Nurse sharks as well as many other colorful tropical fish.
Shopping is spectacular, especially silver jewelry, pottery, brightly colored Mexican cloth, native clothing, and the must have T-Shirts. The food is delicious, but remember DRINK BOTTLED WATER ONLY or bottled colas or beers, and it is wise to avoid ice cubes. The fresh squeezed orange juice, without ice cubes, is usually OK. If you are tempted to get an ice cream from a vendor, best pass it up and wait until you are back on board the ship.
The climate on Cozumel Island is typical of the Caribbean-Temperatures in November will average in the 80s during the day and 60s at night. It can get breezy, especially early morning and early evening. The humidity will be much like southern Alabama. By all means pack your sunscreen, hats, and dark glasses. Comfortable clothes and shoes are a must if you plan to enjoy the local sights.
This area of Mexico loves to celebrate and if you are lucky, you may get to witness one of their numerous parades with marchers, music, vendors and much, much more. Most of all have FUN. FUN. FUN.
