Alabama Quality Assurance Foundation

Alabama Nurse, Dec 2004-Feb 2005

Alabama Quality Assurance Foundation (AQAF) has been awarded a special study by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to help recognize those who are working to enhance the health care received by the state's Medicare beneficiaries.

In 2006, a documentary tentatively titled Remaking Alabama Medicine will be shown on Alabama Public Television, showing a few examples of the health care quality interventions in the state. The purpose of the documentary is not only to let Alabamians know about these but also to recognize these innovators and their contributions to enhanced patient care.

The documentary will feature interviews from four health care Champions. Events such as quality rallies, health fairs, or the strategies of each Champion will be filmed in the production of the documentary. It will be broadcast along with a national Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) documentary, Remaking Alabama Medicine

AQAF continues to seek new and innovative methods to enhance the state's health care services. The documentary is the latest tool to be used in the foundation's ongoing work with health providers, hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, beneficiaries and partners who are committed to improving health care.

Although this project is in the early stage of development, plans for Remaking Alabama Medicine include offering continuing education opportunities as well as making the program available for use as in-service programs. The process of choosing Champions will continue for several months. YOU can help. Let AQAF know about any innovative, effective, dedicated individuals or groups. This is an opportunity to highlight Alabama. Please call Bill Hawkins at AQAF at 1(800) 760- 4550 extension 3124, or send an e-mail to Bhawkins@alqio.sdps.org.

AQAF will continue to provide progress reports on this exciting project.
