Resolved, That the Alabama Nurses Foundation be encouraged to continue awarding scholarships to individuals wishing to become faculty members; therefore, be it further
Resolved, ASNA take the lead in encouraging qualified students to consider pursuing a career hi academia by providing information on the website, providing information at the NSNA convention, and spotlighting nursing faculty stories in The Alabama Nurse.
Voluntary Overtime
Date: September 17, 2004
Resolved, That ASNA publish information in The Alabama Nurse about the potential hazards of working long hours; therefore be it further

Smoking Cessation Counseling
Date: September 17, 2004
Resolved, That ASNA encourage the use of the ASNA Smoking Cessation Program; and be it further
Resolved, That brief counseling for smoking cessation be offered with every patient encounter when appropriate; and be it further
Resolved, That ASNA continue its relationship with the Coalition of Tobacco Free Alabama.
Prevention and Control of Emerging Infectious Diseases
Date: September 17, 2004
Resolved, That ASNA take the lead in dissemination of CDC information about infectious diseases to nurses by distributing this information on the First of the Week, therefore be it further resolved
Resolved, That ASNA provide education to nurses about infectious diseases by whatever means deemed appropriate; and be it further
Resolved, That ASNA advocate for ongoing and timely education and training of nurses and other healthcare workers regarding appropriate mechanisms to protect themselves and their patients/clients, including the importance of handwashing, appropriate personal protective equipment, and environmental controls that help stop the spread of disease.
Environmentally Safe Care
Date: September 17, 2004
Resolved, That ASNA work in partnership with the Alabama Hospital Association and any other interested party in developing a feasible plan to procure, use, and dispose of PVC free medical products and supplies; be it further
Resolved, That ASNA educate health care workers and patients about the health effects of environmental pollution; and be it further
Resolved, That ASNA advocate for minimization of medical waste incineration by educating nurses about what should and should not be incinerated.
ASNA Political Activities
Date: September 17, 2004
Resolved, That ASNA remain neutral by not endorsing any National Political Party and/or their candidates; therefore be it further
Resolved, That ASNA provide information for all major political parties as requested; therefore be it further
Resolved, That all Districts and/or County Nurses Societies sponsor either a Voter Registration Drive or a "Get out the Vote" Drive before the upcoming presidential election.
Arthritis Awareness
Date: September 17, 2004
Resolved, That ASNA promote an awareness campaign by publishing educational material on arthritis in The Alabama Nurse and be it further
Resolved, That ASNA actively recruit individuals with arthritis to become trainer for the Arthritis Self-Help Course and be it further
Resolved, That ASNA present a continuing education program on arthritis/rheumatic diseases next year.
Tuberculosis Awareness
Date: September 17, 2004
Resolved, That ASNA encourage each District to promote a TB awareness program directed at those persons at greatest risk of contacting the disease.
