SPOTLIGHT NEWS, THE

Alabama Nurse, Sep-Nov 2005 by Moore, Edna M

ASNA is proud to highlight Edna M. Moore, BSN, RN in this issue of The Alabama Nurse. Edna is a longtime member of ASNA and has a lengthy list of accomplishments as both a professional nurse and as a member of the community.

Mrs. Moore attended Lincoln Hospital School of Nursing in Durham, N.C. on a full scholarship grant, graduating as an RN. She then earned her BSN degree at Tuskegee Institute College (now Tuskegee University), and began working at the John Andrew Hospital before transitioning to the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tuskegee, AL. She also served four years at the VA Hospital in the Bronx, NY Upon her return to the Tuskegee VA hospital, she served as a ward nurse, surgical nurse and Head Nurse. Upon her retirement in 1985, Edna had completed over 35 years of outstanding service.

This energetic lady has also been very active in her community. She is a member of the Greater St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Tuskegee and an active member of both the Tuskegee University Alumni Association and the Tuskegee University Nurses Alumni Association. She also remains active in the Reach 2010 Cancer Foundation, the National Association for Retired Employees, Habitat for Humanity, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, the Alabama State Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association, Chi Eta Phi Nurses Sorority and is a life time member of Delta Sigma Theta. Mrs. Moore has received numerous awards throughout her career, including Chi Eta Phi's Nurse of the Year and Sisterhood Award, the Tuskegee University Lillian Harvey Nurse Award, Habitat for Humanity Angel Award, and several Appreciation Awards from Tuskegee University. Mrs. Moore has been married for more than 55 years to her husband, Louis James Moore.
