Meet The ASNA Board Of Directors

Janet Donoghue, RN, BS, SANE-A

President

Janet Donoghue, RN, BS, SANE-A attended Saginaw General Hospital School of Nursing, Saginaw Michigan and graduated 1957, then attended Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, Michigan and graduated in 1961. In the mid 1980's I started work on a Masters in Critical Care at UAH, changed life focus, so, started at Athens State College working on undergraduate degree in philosophy.

In Career path I have participated in many roles in nursing from supervisor, nurse manager, charge nurse, clinical instructor and staff nurse. I have worked in medical critical care 25 years. In 1996 I became a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. The International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) in 2002 began a National certification for Adult Sexual Assault Examiners. In 2003 I took the IAFN certification examination and became a SANE-A. I now work prn in MICU and am a part-time manager of the local Sexual Assault program.

Professional Associations involvements are American Association Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) assisted in development of Chapter in North Alabama and was president for 6 years of the Tennessee Valley Chapter of AACN, national AACN volunteer as a Chapter Consultant of Alabama and Georgia, Public Policy Work Tank and a VIP Participatory reviewer; International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) member SANE Council, Chaired the first two biennial, Region 7 (A1., Tn. Ar. Mo, Ky, Ms and La.) Forensic Nursing Conference. 2003, as a consultant developed a Mississippi /Alabama Chapter of IAFN;. Alabama State Nurses Association president of District 10, Educational coordinator District 10, and Multiple ASNA Committees. President ASNA since September 2004

Married in 1961 to Glen Donoghue and became parent of four children. Three daughters and one son and 7 grand children five boys and two girls. The next twenty years traveled all over the world, moving 14 times. Alabama became our home state in 1980. Community involvement: Girl Scout leader and instructor 1973-1980, now assistant leader granddaughter's junior troop; Twickenham Republican Women treasurer 1991-1992, Secretary 2000-2001 and president 2002-2003, now with the Alabama Federation of Republican Women Legislative Chairman. Greater Madison Republican Women and Huntsville/Madison County Rescue Squad Auxiliary.

Ruby Morrison, DSN, RN

President-elect

Dr. Ruby Morrison earned BSN, MN and DSN degrees from Mississippi College, The University of Washington, and The University of Alabama at Birmingham respectively. She currently teaches nursing research to undergraduate students and human relations management to graduate students. The Helene Fuld Trust Fund recognizes her as a Fellow of the Leadership Institute in Nursing. She is certified as an on-site evaluator by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and holds Case Management Administration Certification by the Case Management Society of America. She is a peer reviewer for Nursing Education Perspectives and has recently been approved as a HRSA grant reviewer. She has received awards for outstanding teaching from the ASNA and the Alabama League for Nursing as well as Outstanding Alumnus of Mississippi College School of Nursing. Professional memberships include ASNA, National League for Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, and the Southern Nurses Research Society.

Vanessa Barlow, BSN, RN

Vice-President

Vanessa Barlow Obtained her Associate Degree in 1983 from Troy University Montgomery, Bachelor Degree in 1992 from Troy University Montgomery and MBA pending from University of Phoenix .She is a Charter Member of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., member of ASNA/ANA and Charter Member of American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Alabama Chapter. She worked 19 years at St. Margaret's Hospital in a variety of roles. LPN Instructor, Trenholm State Technical College (1 year-part time evening program). She opened the first Pediatric Homecare in Montgomery (1994) which specialized in pediatric care, Montgomery Home Therapeutics-Chemo, Antibiotics, Pain Pumps, Administrator CMHC of Tuskegee then reimbursement consultant Aegis Healthcare following closure by Aegis, of CMHC of Tuskegee and CMHC of Talladega, Director of Staff Development Columbia Homecare, She is currently Clinic Director GrandView Behavioral Health Center in Montgomery. Vanessa is married to Clemmon Barlow, Jr. Mother to Tanisha and Kevin Bell. 5 stepchildren and with blended family, grandmother to 13. Her hobbies are reading and bowling. Her life goal is to open a day care center for medically fragile children and geriatric clients on the same campus with dual activities which would benefit both age categories. The children learn from their elders and the elders benefit from contact and ongoing stimulation and contact.

Kim Inman-Smith, RN, BSN, MA, MSN

President District 2

Kim Inman-Smith is Director of Nursing Programs at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, AL. She has been at Shelton State since 1979. Kim has a Masters in Adult Health Nursing and a Master's in Teaching Nursing from UAB, she also has a Master's in Education from UA and a postgraduate certificate in Gerontology from UA. Kim has been a member of ASNA since the mid 1970's and has been active in 3 different districts. Kim and her husband Ben live in Northport. Kim is also active in several other Nursing groups in AL especially those related to Nursing Education (ACOPNE, ACAPNET). Kim is a member of the Alabama League of Nursing and serves as a judge for the Miss Alabama System. Kim is a site visitor for NLNAC.
