Essential Oils from the Leaves of Some Queensland Annonaceae

Previous work on the oils of the Australian Annonaceae, with the exception of an unreliably identified and now regrettably unvouchered collection of Haplostichanthus johnsonii which contained 2,3,4,5-tetramethoxyallylbenzene in 1.5-2% yield (36), has shown oils rich in sesquiterpenes. Spathulenol and bicyclogermacrene were the dominant compounds in Xylopia species (5), whereas [beta]-caryophyllene and aromadcndrene dominated in Fitzalania heteropetala (4), Polyalthia (6), Desmos (8), Miliusa (9) and Melodorum (7).
